How do you feel about paying for online beauty purchases with a selfie?
Apparently it’s not such a far-fetched idea. The first online retailer to initiate one step check out process for frequently purchased items now wants the be the first to offer “pay be selfie”. (push-to-buy Dash buttons)
On March 10th, Amazon filed a patent application for a new system that would allow shoppers to take a selfie or video of themselves to confirm an online purchase. By using a method that requires the buyer to perform an action, Amazon feels this new technology could prevent fraudulent use of stolen credit cards or cell phones.
A similar futuristic idea has already been tested by credit card merchant, MasterCard. In a limited study with around 500 customers MasterCard used a fingerprint scanner and a cell phone to verify online purchases. At this time there is no word on when this option would become available to the general public.
Details in Amazon’s patent application describe using biometric facial recognition software to confirm a person’s identity. The patent filing also points out the issue of forgotten passwords and annoying captchas that make online purchases difficult, especially on mobile devices. The concept of requiring the buyer to perform an action such as smiling, winking or blinking would confirm that the buyer is in fact a two-dimensional image as well as the authorized buyer associated with the account. It is too early in the patent application process to project a roll out date for Amazon’s proposed pay by selfie process however, you can bet this will be a game changer for all online shoppers in the not so distant future.
How do your thing feel about Amazon’s pay by selfie??
Sending peace, love & happiness to all!
