Yesterday marked the one year anniversary for my husband, Darren and I. It was a gloriously sunny day so we decided to revisit the site where we got married, the Roswell Town Square, and take a few photos to commemorate our special day. Later, as I was sentimentally perusing the photos our photographer, Annie Gannon Kaufman, took on our wedding day, I was reminded of how our beautifully simple decor set the stage for the main event of the day, our commitment and declaration of love for one another.
For many couples, the visual image of their wedding day is filled with tradition, elegance and in a sense, a social event that is more designed to appeal to guests of the wedding than the bride and groom. Since Darren and I had both been married in the past and hosted ceremonies that were more traditional (and costly!) in nature, we had a strong desire to do it differently this time, the LAST time:) We felt blessed to have finally met our soul mate and be given the opportunity to plan a future together so we opted to focus on what the day meant to us personally, as a couple in love, instead of a desire to entertain or impress our guests.
First, let me express what a blessing this decision was with regard to our stress level. It was such a relief to go at our own pace, with the ability to change our minds if we chose to do so without worrying about coordinating with schedules or requirements of wedding vendors. It also forced us to tap into our own sense of style to create a visual image of what we wanted our day, more specifically the props and decor of our outdoor ceremony to look like. As ideas began to unfold and slowly transform into reality, there was a sense of accomplishment and gratitude that bloomed from our working “hands on”, as a team to make everything we needed to make our special day unique.
I hope you enjoy the slideshow that I created with images from our wedding preparation and ceremony. Thank you to my beautiful and talented daughter, Madison Laughridge and her boyfriend, Gareth Asher for serenading us on our most special day! Peace and love to all!
P.S. If you would like details on how to create these items let me know and I will do another DIY post.
