Lipstick lovers prepare to be seduced by your new favorite cosmetic brand, Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics, a/k/a OCC…
Working as a makeup artist with a broad demographic of women, I have come to appreciate a somewhat unknown brand in the retail world, Obsessive Compulsives Cosmetics. OCC was founded by David Klasfeld, a makeup artist with a desire to create a brand that offered flexibility and creativity to fellow artists. The brand launched with two lip balms in 2004 however, OCC Lip Tars didn’t make an appearance until 2009 when they were launched at the Makeup Show: Los Angeles.
What are lip tars you ask? OCC Lip Tars are the answer to every woman’s prayer for a long-lasting lipstick that doesn’t feather, bleed or dry out the lips.
These highly pigmented liquid lipsticks feel great on the lips and contain moisturizing ingredients including Organic Hemp Oil and Soy-Derived Vitamin E as well as refreshing Peppermint Oil. Although Lip Tars apply similar to a lip gloss, they dry down to a long lasting yet comfortable satin finish lipstick. In addition, OCC’s Lip Tars come in an endless array of colors and the formula is 100 percent vegan and certified internationally as Cruelty-Free by PETA.
My favorite shades of Lip Tar are the soft neutrals and peach shades but I have the flexibility to custom blend any shade of lip color with OCC’s Lip Tar primary pack. The primary pack contains mini versions of the original Lip Tars called test tubes in primary shades of red, yellow, blue, black and white. Although I own a plethora of lipsticks from many different cosmetic brands, my favorites are the Lip Tars from OCC. No matter what the occasion, the perfect shade of lip color is always available and in a formula that I can rely on to stay put, feel great and look gorgeous far longer than any other product on the market.
My Favorite Lip Tar Shades:
- Memento – Neutral Pink (Matte)
- Clockword – Burnished Orange (Matte)
- Grandma – Classic Coral (Matte)
- Kava kava – Light Neutral Peach (Matte)
- Hollywood – Gold Metallic Shimmer
To apply Lip Tar, prime the lips with primer (OCC sells a clear lip primer but I use my favorite makeup primer which is Hourglass Veil Primer). Although the brand claims a lip pencil is not necessary, I definitely recommend using a lip liner prior to application of Lip Tar. Dispense a small (I mean TINY bead) of Lip Tar onto the included lip brush and apply to center of the lips, blending outward toward the lip line.
DID YOU KNOW?
In the retail world, the category of lip color consistently leads other cosmetic categories. In fact, lipstick is considered to be “recession proof”, so much so that Leonard Lauder of Estee Lauder, coined the term “lipstick index” in 2001, a theory that women will buy less expensive goods during economic crisis.
Have you heard of Lip Tars or tried them in the past? If so, what did you think of them, please share your thoughts in the comments section below.
Sending peace, love and happiness to all!!
