whats her secret

I recently had the opportunity to learn about two dermal fillers, Restylane® Lyft  and Restylane® Silk at a “What’s Her Secret?” Blogger Event.  This information packed presentation and event was hosted by global healthcare company, Galderma and board-certified dermatologist, Dr. Anna Pare of Dermatology Consultants.

The What’s Her Secret? Blogger Event was held in an effort to properly educate the public about dermal fillers that are FDA approved to counteract the signs of the aging face.  With increasing popularity of non-surgical cosmetic treatments, it is important that potential patients of these treatments understand which products are FDA approved for specific areas of the face.

In June 2014, Restylane® Silk received FDA approval as the first filler indicated for lip enhancement and treatment of perioral lines, a/k/a smokers lines in patients over the age of 21.  Restylane® Silk is designed for individuals looking to address the signs of aging around their lips and mouth with a subtle, natural enhancement.  Unlike other Restylane® products, Restylane® Silk is composed of a unique particle formulation that is smaller and smoother, resulting in a softer, more precise result — ideal for restoring and enhancing the smile.

Restylane® Lyft, previously known as Perlane-L® became the first FDA approved dermal filler for cheek augmentation and the correction of age-related midface contour deficiencies in patients over the age of 21 in July, 2015.  This is the second FDA approval for Restylane® Lyft which had already received FDA approved for the treatment of moderate to severe facial folds, such as the nasolabial folds, a/k/a smile lines.

The “ideal” proportion for lips is 40% top lip and 60% bottom.  However, as we age the lips tend to get smaller, typically the top lip becomes smaller and the ratio of lip size ends up being closer to 20% top lip and 80% bottom lip.  Also, lips can become uneven with more thinning on one side of the lip than the other.

My lips have never been very full however, in recent years the top lip has lost quite a bit of volume.  In addition, the right and left sides have lost their symmetry, with the right side thinning more than the left.  Fortunately, my makeup artistry skills have allowed me to camouflage the unevenness and create the illusion of symmetry.  I have considered lip injections in the past however, my fear of unnatural, over-injected lips prevented me from pursuing this idea until now.  When I learned about Restylane® Silk I decided I would like to make an appointment with Dr. Pare and discuss how this injectable could correct my lip shape without looking over-injected.

My overall impression:
Having had Juvederm treatments in my nasolabial folds in the past, I was thrilled that Restylane® Silk did not have to be smoothed out after injection which can be quite painful.  My injections with Restylane® Silk were virtually painless and I had very minimal swelling or bruising.  Fullness should last at least six months at which time I will schedule a follow up appointment with Dr. Pare to discuss continued treatment with Restylane® Silk.  I would definitely recommend treatment with Restylane® Silk by Dr. Anna Pare for anyone looking to enhance their smile in a way that looks natural and beautiful.

Sending peace, love and happiness to all!
