mermaid eyelids

Sourse: Michele Morosi,

Fall hasn’t officially arrived yet and I am already looking forward to Spring 2016 beauty trends which focuses on the eyes. Lids painted with bold shades of blue and green were featured on the runways of Mercedes Benz Fashion SS16 by designers Monique Lhuillier and Diane von Furstenberg, (DVF).

Mermaid eyeshadow

I love Pat McGrath’s metallic “mermaid lids” look that was inspired by a photo of DVF from the 1970’s opening of Studio 54. Pat created the look using a damp shadow brush dipped in metallic shadow pigments which were applied to the lids and both lash lines. The eyes were defined in shimmery cobalt blue and loads of mascara to create an eye look that is very reminiscent of 1970’s disco days. create the look mermaid lids

To keep the overall makeup look modern, the rest of the face reflects an ethereal vibe with dewy skin, freshly flushed cheeks in shades of peach with a hint of highlighter along the high planes of the cheekbones. Balm kissed, natural looking lips completes this gorgeous look that guarantees the eyes will be the center of attraction next spring.

How to recreate the look:

Apply an eyeshadow primer or cream eyeshadow to ensure color pops on the lid. Using a flat eyeshadow brush that has been dampened with water, apply a shimmery cobalt blue shade to the upper lash line and outer half of the lid.  Next, fill inner half of the lid with a turquoise/greenish shadow.

Using a detail brush, take this same turquoise/greenish eyeshadow and line the lower lash line, continuing to the outer corner of the eye.

Using a clean, fluffy eyeshadow brush, blend, blend blend. Ensuring that there is no line of demarcation where color starts and stops.

Line upper watermark/lash line with a black eyeliner pencil. Make sure the formula is waterproof so that color doesn’t transfer to the lower lash line.

Curl lashes, then apply two coats of mascara.
