“Our souls become filters through which we perceive goodness or evil.”
The Lord has pushed me out of my cocoon of comfort and called me to begin writing again. For several reasons, including a loss of steady income, this change of direction is stirring up fear and threatening to steal my peace. Thankfully, God always knows exactly what we need before we even ask Him. As we choose to seek Him by regular reading of His Word, He proves his love and faithfulness time and time again.
A mind not governed by truth is vulnerable to lies
This morning’s scripture reading from the book of Titus provides great encouragement to those of us who are experiencing uncertainty or anxiety in any area of our lives. In chapter 1, verse 15 we read:
“Everything is pure to those whose hearts are pure. But nothing is pure to those who are corrupt and unbelieving, because their minds and consciences are corrupted.”
The descriptive word, “pure” in this verse is translated from the Greek word, katharos which means: to be free from corrupt desire; free from mingling or mixing what is false with what is genuine; purified by fire, like a vine cleansed by pruning and so fitted to bear fruit.
In a nutshell, this verse is telling us that when we: 1) relinquish control of our lives to Christ, 2) turn away from the world, and 3) turn toward the face and heart of God, our thinking begins to fall in line with the mind of Christ. And as we choose to fill our minds with the truth of God’s Word, it will change the way we think. Not only that, but it will also change the way we act and react to situations and circumstances in our every day lives.
But, we cannot be transformed in our spare time. God wants us to grapple with His Word so that it becomes rooted in our hearts, our souls, and our minds. As our knowledge of God’s Word becomes personal revelation from the Lord, we can “fix our mind” on what is true, honorable, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, and worthy of praise. (Phil 4:8)
Sending peace, love and happiness to all!
