My favorite post each week is my Sunday post where I get to share details about our recent GlobalX mission trip to Cambodia. As I mentioned in my previous post, this was the first mission trip experience for both my husband and myself and it will definitely not be our last!
Leading up to our trip, our team planned daily curriculum and activities designed to teach the kids about the unconditional love that was available to them through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. I personally went into this trip with the mindset or notion that we would be the “givers” in this scenario. “Missionaries” that would be showering “much needed” love and affection to more 70+ orphans from three New Life Missions orphanages. Wow, was I in for a surprise!!
Despite the heartbreaking circumstances that led to these children being orphaned, their smiles were bright and their hearts were warm and pure, overflowing with an authenticity that I have rarely seen in my life. My experience with these Cambodian children and the unconditional love they demonstrated to us and each other was life changing. In all honesty, despite my plan to be the “giver” in this scenario, what I received from these beautiful children was far greater than I could ever have imagined!!
Upon arrival to the orphanage each day, we would greet the kids and begin the day with praise and music led by one of our GlobalX team members, Mary Margaret. This was such a fun experience for all of us, especially as the children became comfortable and learned the words and hand motions to the songs we sang. As you view the video below, keep in mind that the majority of these children do not speak English however, you can clearly hear their sweet voices singing the words to these worship songs. There is no language or cultural barrier when it comes to expressing our love for Jesus!!
To those of you that donated to our mission trip fundraising efforts, thank you for giving us the opportunity to serve on the summer 2015 Cambodia mission team. Bless you for giving us the opportunity to get to know and love these beautiful children that have stolen our hearts for eternity. We plan to return to Cambodia again next year and will continue to share our story and introduce you to some of the kids each Sunday afternoon in my weekly “Children of Cambodia” blog series.
Next week I look forward to introducing you to Huon and Hong, two of the children that were placed with the orphanage less than two weeks before our arrival. I bet these two will capture your hearts, just like they have ours:)
Sending love, peace and happiness to all!
